IMTD 2009-India Medical Travel Conference in Toronto, Canada indicates tremendous response

An impressive array of speakers at the Conference IMTD led by Dr. Narottama Puri, President of Strategy and Quality Care, Fortis Escorts Hospital Group, Deloitte Fam Marcos Health Center Solutions, Canada, Ms. Ann Kaplan, president and CEO of Medicard Finance, Dr. Vasanthi Srinivasan, director of Health System Planning and Research, Ontario Ministry of Health and Thukral Mr Pradeep, Executive Director, Indian Medical Travel Association (IMTA) impressed the audience and showed the strengths of indigenous health in Canada.

Ms. Preeti Saran, Consulate General of India, Toronto who opened the event on November 20, 2009 also used the presence of delegates from India to host a special network Business Breakfast meeting a day before the event, attended by over 100 Canadian companies and healthcare leaders who deliberated on "Development synergies between India and Canada in the health sector "

The most prominent of the events were a meeting to share the experience of Canadian patients who were treated recently in India and a roundtable hospitals in the province of Ontario Health Authority Office, where industry leaders from Canada Health and India discussed cooperation possibilities in areas as diverse as telemedicine and public health. The Ontario Health Authority also shown interest the excellent quality and cost of health care delivery by major hospitals in India and announced plans to send a senior delegation to visit hospitals in India and see how the strengths of health care in India can be used to lower the waiting list.

India Travel Medical Association The Indian Embassy in Spain, Ministry of Tourism and Tourism surgical Canada joined to celebrate this first time in trade fair to promote Canadian Medical Value Travel to India. keynote speakers and presenters at the 2009 IMTD India were Fortis Health, Max Hospitals, Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre, Chennai, Lakeshore Hospital and KIMS Kerala, Madras joint replacement center in Chennai, Soukya Spa, Bangalore and Medicity Jalandar Mann.

The Indian Ministry of Tourism has implemented a successful "Incredible India" promotion campaign in India, has approved the participation in IMTD 2009 by JCI accredited hospitals and NaBH India and other eligible medical travel facilitators under the MDA – Market Development Assistance Scheme. Therefore the participating hospitals were able to obtain financial support for an important part of the costs of promoting under the MDA scheme of the Ministry of Tourism.

The delivery system has been socialized Medical aid is under stress and waiting lists are growing. A long surgical waiting list about 850,000 Canadians, pointed to the need of this conference. Canadians are tired of waiting and open to visit and learn about its multitude of options beyond the realms of public health system. IMTD therefore attracted the interest of local mass media in Canada with channels running as CBC, Toronto Star and The Epoch Times covering the event. "
