More swine flu deaths in India
With the death of four people – two in Santiago and one in Aurangabad and Pune, the number of swine flu victims in the country mounted to 33 on Wednesday. In Bangalore, a 45-year-old succumbed to the H1N1 virus Wednesday morning. Tamiflu had been on since 15 August. Their culture test was confirmed as H1N1 positive. c A 36-year-old woman from Bangalore died on Aug. 17. She was admitted to the Hospital Room Asia Cup final on 14 August and continued fan. She was given Tamiflu Aug. 14.
Of the 33 swine flu deaths so far, 19 have died in Maharashtra, including 14 in Pune and three in Mumbai. Seven people have died in Karnataka, three in Gujarat, two in Chhattisgarh and one in Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
The flu continues its expansion in the country with 216 people who tested positive for the deadly virus on Wednesday, taking the total number of those affected by the pandemic by 2242. Mumbai (48) and Pune (36) topped the list of cases Wednesday followed by Chennai (30) and Delhi (25).
A 40-year-old worker, Arjun Bihari, is the first confirmed Victim of the H1N1 virus in the Marathwada region of Maharashtra, where the swine flu has spread to more areas. Bihari died Monday while being transferred to public hospitals medicine.
The National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune has sent the report on throat swab samples from the GMCH to Bihari late Tuesday afternoon, confirming that it was H1N1 positive.
Meanwhile, three other patients are still in critical condition in the ICU of Sassoon hospital isolation. All three have been positive for H1N1, an official said. In Nashik, the death toll rose to three as the reports of two patients who died had discovered that the swine flu.
